How to Choose CBD

Not all CBD products are created equal and it can be a head-spinning experience trying to compare all the options out there—but at its simplest, we believe that if a plant is healthy and cared for as nature intended, then it will be healthy for you too.

We’ve created this list of considerations for you to help increase your understanding.

Certificate of Analysis (COA)/Third Party Testing

Third-party testing is key and if your CBD supplier isn’t wiling to share their third-party results, RUN. The tests verify THC levels are within the acceptable range (less than 0.3%), the product is free from harmful chemical solvents, pesticides and microbes and that it has a consistent and therapeutic level of CBD. Sadly, there are many products on the marketplace with little or no actual CBD in them.

Our approach:  We believe in full transparency!  Every bottle of lylole wellness tincture has a batch number that you can email us at hello@lylole.com to get the third-party test results.

CBD isn’t always called CBD

When buying CBD products, look for these words in the ingredients list, which indicate there’s actual CBD in the formula: CBD, hemp CBD, full-spectrum hemp extract, phytocannabinoid-rich hemp oil, hemp extract oil. Those are all synonyms for CBD.  Hemp seed oil, however, while very beneficial for it’s fatty acid profile, is extracted from the hemp seeds and does not contain any CBD.

Speaking of labels, make sure to read your labels and confirm all ingredients are listed on the label. Unfortunately, some sellers don’t list byproducts, which could be harmful to consumers.

Our approach:  We call our products full-spectrum wellness tinctures and reference the letters CBD (for cannabidiol) to reduce confusion for consumers. In addition, all of our ingredients are natural and listed on our labels.

Full-Spectrum versus Isolate

Whole plant or full-spectrum means making the CBD oil from the entire hemp plant, versus making it from isolates, or only parts of the plant (CBD molecules are isolated without other parts of the plant).

Our approach:  We use full-spectrum extracts because we believe in the ‘entourage effect’ which leverages multiple whole plant extracts, in addition to CBD. Researchers theorize broad spectrum extracts make the CBD more readably absorbed and bioavailable . Our extract contains CBD derived from select hemp cultivated in the USA which contains most of the plant’s original compounds, including other non-psychoactive phytocannabinoids, terpenes and plant waxes to create a full spectrum, whole plant formula.

Growing and Extraction Methods:

Even the highest quality hemp can produce low-quality CBD oil when grown or extracted incorrectly.  The country of origin, the soil and the growing method are key considerations. Ideally you want the CBD oil to be from North America or Western Europe.  Some oils from hemp-extracted CBD oil from China has been known to be tainted with toxins. There are two primary types of extraction methods: ethanol and CO2 extraction.

Our approach: Our partner farmers are passionate about regenerative agriculture and we believe good crops come from good soil.  Our USA-only grown hemp is cultivated using organic farming practices and in soil free from toxins.  Our hemp is both grown and extracted with a supercritical CO2 extraction process that extracts an extremely pure form of CBD oil, which we believe produces a more effective oil.
